Explain also KINDS OF CUSPS ….

We know that at a cusp two branches of a curve have a common tangent and therefore a common normal. A cusp is called a single cusp or a double cusp according as the two branches of the curve lie entirely on one side or on both sides of the common normal.

Species of Cusps : A cusp, single or double , is said to be of first species or of second species, according as the two branches of the curve , lie on opposite or same side of the common tangent.

Single cusp of first species …

Single cusp of second species..

Double cusp of first species..

Point of osculinflexion :A double cusp with the change of species on the sides of the common normal is called a point of oscul – inflexion .

Anyone can explain POINT OF INFLEXION ….

A point on a curve at which the curve changes from concavity to convexity or vice versa is called a point of inflexion .

Since a change from concavity to convexity or vice versa at a point is possible only if the curve crosses tangent that point. Therefore, we may also define the point of inflexion as point on the curve at which the curve crosses the tangent.

Figure : Point of Inflexion..

Remark :
It is to be noted that the curve at a point of inflexion exhibits an extraordinary or unusual behaviour, for the curve does not ordinarily cross the tangent, as it does at a point of inflexion . Hence a point of inflexion on a curve is also a singular point.

What is the definition of transpose matrix & also explain properties ?

Given a matrix A , then the matrix obtained from A by changing its rows into columns and columns into rows is called the transpose of matrix A. It is denoted by A’ or A^t.

For example….

Properties of transpose of matrix A :
If A’ & B’ denote the transpose of matrix A & B respectively , then
(1) (A’)’ = A i.e., the transpose of the transpose of a matrix is the matrix itself.
(2) (A + B)’ = A’ + B’ i.e., the transpose of the sum of two matrices is…[Read more]

Also explain Orthogonal & Nilpotent Matrix ……

Orthogonal Matrix : A square matrix A is called an orthogonal matrix , if AA’ =A’A =I.

Nilpotent Matrix : A square matrix A is said to be nilpotent matrix if A^2 = 0 .

Thanks sir..

But I have a confusion , If A & B are any two orthogonal matrices, Then can i find out AB an orthogonal matrix..

Yes Nidhi ma’am, AB will also be an orthogonal matrix…

Can anyone explain , What is the method of Mathematical Induction in matrix ?

Mathematical induction is a very useful device for proving results for all positive integers. If the result to be proved involves n, where n is a positive integer, then the proof by mathematical induction consists of the following two steps :
Step 1 : Verify the result for n =1
Step 2 : Assume the result to be true for n= k & then prove that…[Read more]

What is the definition of Matrix ?

A matrix is defined as a rectangular array( or arrangement in rows or columns) of scalars subject to certain rules of operations.
If mn numbers (real or complex) or functions are arranged in the form of a rectangular array A having m rows(horizontal lines) & n columns (vertical lines) then A is called an ( m x n ) matrix. Each of the mn numbers…[Read more]
